Learning piano should be enjoyable – but enjoyment and serious learning are not opposites. My lessons balance music students enjoy playing with the skills they need to become independent musicians: reading, technique, rhythm, musical understanding, and healthy playing habits.
Every lesson is one-on-one and individually structured around the student’s age, level, goals, strengths, and challenges.
For young beginners especially, the first steps matter. Beginner piano doesn’t mean beginner teaching. Posture, hand position, fingering, reading habits, and technique established early can shape a student’s playing for years to come.
As students progress, lessons continue to develop technique, musical expression, independence, and increasingly advanced repertoire.

Every student comes to the piano with different goals.
Some students want to play simply for enjoyment. Others prepare for recitals, ABRSM exams, competitions, or advanced musical study. My role is to give each student the skills and understanding to progress as far as they choose to go.
Whether the goal is playing favorite pieces at home, performing on stage, entering a competition, or eventually pursuing music at university, it all starts with learning to play and understand music well.
About Maria Teresa
Maria Teresa is a 5-star rated piano professor in the US and an International pianist who performs regularly in both the US and Europe. She is a Steinway Certified Piano Teacher and Educational Partner, known for her commitment to excellence in music education. She holds Bachelor of Music degrees in Piano Performance, Chamber Music, and Music Theory from the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, Spain, as well as a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Barcelona. She first developed her own piano studio in Carmel, IN, and in 2018, she established Maria Teresa Studio in San Diego, CA, where she taught more than 200 students over the years. Her teaching combines technical precision, musicality, and personal mentorship.
In 2025, she relocated to San Marcos, CA, where she continues to offer private piano lessons in a warm, professional and inspiring environment.
